Martina Cole’s The Runaway coming to Sky1

Martina Cole’s The Runaway coming to Sky1

It’s official. Martina Cole novel The Runaway is to be the second TV dramatisation by Sky1.

Hot on the heels of the recent dramatisation of The Take it has been announced that The Runaway is being adapted for television. Good news for the fans and something to look forward to in these days of poor television programming. The production will be handled by Company Pictures who are one of the U.K.’s largest independent television drama and film production companies. Company Pictures were also responsible for producing The Take which aired recently.

The story of Cathy Connor and Eamonn Docherty will be great to watch and the setting of 60′s and 70′s Soho will make for an interesting backdrop. I liked this book and will be keen to see how much detail is kept in the dramatisation. I’m assuming it will follow The Take in its broadcasting format of a mini-series.

More news as and when I find it will be posted here so watch this space.

It says on the hardcover version of Broken that The Runaway is in TV production that would have been years ago (9-10 going by Broken’s Hardcover release date)… where did you get this news?

  • dangerousLady.co.uk said:

I saw the comment about Runaway being televised over on broadcastnews, I think, a while back now. Like yourself I also saw the comment in Broken about that being televised. TV companies are in the habit of shelving projects or moving to a new financial year so it could be anyones guess!

I have not seen any new news on this but will keep looking. When I find out anymore info I will be sure to post!

Its quite crazy printing that for everyone to see and the project gets shelved!

I’ll keep checking back, The Runaway is so far my favourite of the Books I have read!

The Jump has already been done as a mini series, you can buy Dangerous Lady and The Jump on a double bill DVD.

Runaway was in production for TV but I read somewhere that Martina Cole wasn’t happy with the way it was going and put it on hold. The new company who did The Take will be taking on both Runaway and The Graft, I asked Martina about these when I met her at Liverpool Street and she said they are both out this year.

Can’t wait to see Runaway, definately Martina at her best. I don’t think the casting will be as good at The Take. Tom Hardy is certainly something special.

Thanks for the update Samm. I thought something must have happened to the adaptation since I posted the article. Lets hope if finally hits the small screen!

It looks like this will be coming to Sky 1 after all! Filming has just started and will be continuing until June. Sky plan to show the drama in the Summer.

More news as I get it.

The Runaway is presently in production in Cape Town & I can assure all future viewers your in for a treat. I don’t want to divulge who the star actors are but rest assured, the scenes I’ve been involved in have showcased some tremendous performances.
Likewise, I’m keen to ascertain when the series will be aired.

Hi was really looking forward to this coming on tv. I was really disappointed. The ending was totally different to the book and the story did not get the feelings that come across in the book or the depth of the story. It also kept flashing back throughout the tv show and did nt show a lot of substance. There was so much more going on in the book that just didnt come across. I felt the actor playing eamonn whilst looked good as the younger eamonn just didnt look right as what the older eamonn came across as in the book.

This is one of my favourite Martina Cole books along with Goodnight Lady….Both reallly good stories .
